    Pros +

    • The room was clean and quiet. Although we had to use translators on our phones to communicate at times, the staff was very friendly and very willing to help. Appreciate the coffee provided in the lobby.
    • Location in Ueno made it the best area to depart from Tokyo. Lots of good street shopping and dining nearby.
    • The location of the hotel is excellent—just a short walk to the train station, convenience stores, and plenty of restaurants. Ameyoko Shopping Street is close by as well, along with a large Uniqlo and GU building, which makes the area even more convenient. The daily breakfast, although not buffet-style, is surprisingly good. There are a few options such as pancakes, bread, and sausages, served with salads and drinks. My only concern is the size of the room—it’s quite small, though this seems to be common for most hotels in Tokyo. I booked one room for myself and my husband, and another for my two children. There were no connecting rooms available, which made it a bit challenging to move around, especially with our luggage as a family.Despite the room size, I still highly recommend this hotel in Ueno for its fantastic location, service, and overall convenience.

    Cons -

    • Room was tiny. We were only able to fit one small suitcase for each person in the room. Fortunately, we stored the big luggage somewhere else before checking in. Wish there is a sitting area in the lobby.
    • It was a little less clean than your usual budget hotel in Tokyo. Also, one of the clerks was openly disdainful of me (the American tourist) when asked anything, including to verify checkout time. Rudest experience I had Japan.
    • Nothing! I’d stay here again in a heartbeat!

Loved everything about this place. First, the location: Ueno. This area is awesome - near the beautiful ueno park and all of the train stations. And at night & during the day it became this lively beautiful place with great food and lots of lights. The perfect balance of energy and peace while on vacation. Next, the accommodations. The hotel also equipped you with free coffee in the morning, bath salts, and any toiletries that you may need. The bed was incredibly comfortable & the soaking tub/shower combo was great after a long day on your feed. The cherry on top was the bird/nature sounds that they play in the hallways — it makes the space so relaxing and peaceful.

Nothing! I’d stay here again in a heartbeat!

Good location, reasonable room, nice and clean

Animal noises in the hallways could get a bit annoying after a while.

The location is very convenient for you to go anywhere you want, the train stations are in walking distance. The shopping malls and restaurants are close.

There is not anything I can think of that I don't like.

We stayed here as a couple for ~1 week in December 2025.- Really great location. That's the main selling point. Ueno Station not too far. Many different stations within 5 minutes of walk. Nice calm clean area. Not too crowded.- Small but useful fridge with freezer.- Everyday towels and water.- Convenience store around the corner.- Free toothbrush, toothpaste, hair comb, bath salt, etc.- Decent room temperature if you don't turn on AC. If you turn it on, it will be warm and a bit hot. In Winter.

    - The rooms are a bit small, relatively.- A bit thin walls and not great soundproofing.- A bit of queues at laundry machines.- No heated toilet seats.- Relatively simple TV, probably not 4K.- Small in-room trash bin.

The location of the hotel, close to metro and train station and shops. We only stayed one night before departure, so I can't say much more about the amenities.

    7AndrewPosted on: 11-23-2025

We were only here overnight the first night. It was decent. Small room. A little dated.

The staff warned me at checkin that “they’ll allow it this time” but bookings.com vs my passport didn’t have my middle name. I found it odd as there was no pre-checkin process like other hotels.

We stayed here on the last day of our trip, due to the connect to the Skyliner train. Walkable distance to Ueno station, and great spot to connect to airport Skyliner for Narita airport transfers. Breakfast was downstairs at the Cafe underneath the Hotel, and was 1 dish ordered from a menu and a drink.

Room and bathroom were small as expected, and slightly dated fittings.

The location was comfortable and I appreciated the coffee provided in the lobby.

They did not push the two twin beds together as they said they would, and said it would not be possible as staff had already left for the evening. We paid for a room with two twins and one sofa bed (for 2 adults and 1 child), in order to utilize the sofa bed as a bed since we did not have 1 large bed to share, we were required to upgrade our room for an additional 5,500 yen. There was 1 pillow provided per person. Extra pillows to rent were on a first-come, first serve basis. All were taken by the time we checked in.The curtains in room are not blackout. Please take note if you are sensitive to light from outside.

The staff, the location, the mattress.

The room was really small, but it's worth it!

    10JoaniePosted on: 11-10-2025

Very close to several train stations, food and shopping street in ueno.

Pillows were limited to 2 per bed, they were a bit flat and was not as comfortable to sleep on for the majority of the night. We were able to get extra pillows on our last night

I rarely write reviews, but had to share our experience! We spent 5 nights here. Perfectly situated near transportation lines and right around the corner from the Ameyoko shopping street, Hotel Tosei Cocone Ueno Okachimachi is a perfect home base for exploring Tokyo’s east side neighborhoods. It’s near the calm Ueno Park, and a short walk to the buzzing Akihabara area. We spent 6 months researching an approachable place to start our time in Tokyo, and this hotel exceeded our expectations on every measure. The room was immaculate, quiet and filled with useful amenities. We travelled with carry-on luggage only, so the typical sized room worked well for us. I made use of the deep bath with complimentary bath-salts to recharge after a hectic visit to the Tsukiji Fish Market….and it was a nice bit of calm in the busiest city on earth. Varied breakfasts are available downstairs, or hit a nearby Konbini for a tasty snack. Or, if you speak some basic Japanese, visit the next door Depa-chika on the bottom floor of the nearby department store for glittering cases of luxury deli prepared box lunches. (At affordable prices)The hotel staff are very professional and have some English language skills. Visit the pillow library for pillow of your preference. We loved the fresh pajamas which were supplied daily. Thank you to all the hotel staff who make this modern hotel work like clockwork.*Note: There are two hotels from this franchise with very similar names in the same area. So, make sure to cite the location with “Okachimachi.”

    Honestly, nothing.

    9ChristinaPosted on: 10-21-2025

We love that the property is a 2-min walk from the Okachimachi station and there are plenty of restaurants nearby! There's a free self-service coffee at the reception area. We'd love to stay again!

The rooms are small, but it seems like the standard room size in Tokyo.

    7RogerPosted on: 10-11-2025

Location near train stations, shopping nearby, restaurants, convenience stores

    Room was small

    9AnnastasiaPosted on: 9-29-2025

The location is great with easy access to everything and everywhere

It’s was a bit smaller than I expected but it’s Japan so we got use to the size pretty quickly as everything else exceeded our expectation

    8FabrizioPosted on: 8-29-2025

The position is super, well connected and with a wonderful park close by. The neighborood is quite folkloristic. The hotel cafè is good value.

2 coin laundries are too few for a 18 floors hotel. We couldn't use them as they were always taken, and eventually reverted to using laundromats in the street. The elevator has a similar problem: sometimes it took an unreasonably long time to manage to get to the ground or to our floor, as the elevator stopped to collect many people at many levels, who often couldn't get on the elevator that was already full. The room was really tiny, but I am under the impression that it is standard for Tokyo.

    7SatomiPosted on: 7-24-2025

“Location”: near to restaurants, shopping (Matsusakaya Department Store and Parco Ya), and shopping (Uniqlo and others, Ameyoko). Also near to JR Okachimacho and Ginza Line subway station.

Room is way smaller than we wanted (we travel with big luggages)

    8EldwinPosted on: 7-18-2025

I like the location, a few minutes from Okachimachi station. There are many drug stores, Uniqlo, GU and shopping malls close by. My favorite family mart is just around the corner to grab the breakfast. Also, I liked the firmness of the bed, the body wash that didn't dry up my skin and the coffee & tea bar!

Only two laundry machines in the hotel for many people are inconvenient.
